🔴Andrei Stenin International Press Photo Contest has dispatched its team to the Tretyakov Gallery on a Photo[graphic] Journey. 🔴This is the title of an exhibition which presents works by prominent photographers from around the world, including views of Naples by 19th century master of photography Giorgio Sommer, photo portraits of Bedouins by Swiss photographer Jean Geiser, and Egyptian women in their traditional dresses by Hippolyte Arnoux, a French photographer. These imagines are accompanied by sketches, drawings and engravings by Russian artists, including Boris Grigoryev, Alexei Kravchenko, Robert Falk and others. 🔴The exhibition also features photographs by Italian journalist Roberto Scarfone who had worked many years in Russia and transferred a part of his collection to the Tretyakov Gallery. These are over 300 images shot or acquired by Scarfone when travelling the world, including images by the great of the great in the art of photography, whose names are in the photography history textbooks. 🔴This is how Scarfone explained his decision to transfer his collection to the Tretyakov Gallery: “The Ministry of Culture issued me an approval to export part of this collection from Russia 20 years ago. But now I brought it back to Russia because I believe that this country has a bright future lying ahead of it.” 🔴In its digital section, the exhibition presents works by the participants in a mobile photo competition, the HUAWEI XMAGE project. Today, smartphone photography serves as an interface between people and the rapidly changing world. Photos at this exhibition make a strong statement that even mobile devices can be up to the task when it comes to creating real artwork. 🔴The Photo[graphic] Journey at the Tretyakov Gallery offers a marvelous opportunity to discover people, cities, countries and nature across various continents, seasons and eras, as well as an insight into how photography evolved and the perfection of photo equipment.
